Every day over the festive holiday, PembrokeshireSport.co.uk will be paying its own special tribute to the fantastic sports people who have been recognised in 2024 in the ever-popular 18
th annual event – and we would like to congratulate Matthew Freeman and his busy staff at Sport Pembrokeshire for their wonderful work in organising another memorable evening for so many deserving causes at Folly Farm Theatre.
The category of
Girls (U16) Sporting Achievement of the Year was sponsored by
Valero and the finalists were: Chloe John-Driscoll (Winner), Cerys Griffiths and Ffion Bowen. Unfortunately, Ffion was unable to be there on the night as she was at the Euro qualifier in Bosnia with the Wales U19 side.
Chloe John-Driscoll (Winner):
Chloe John-Driscoll is the reigning Welsh Schools Air Rifle Champion, exemplifying exceptional talent and commitment in her sport. Competing both nationally and internationally, Chloe achieved the highest score and claimed a gold medal for Wales at the GB Junior International. She went on to secure additional medals, including a bronze in the mixed pairs and two silvers in individual and team events. Recently accepted into the British Shooting Pathway, Chloe competed among top contenders, impressively emerging as one of the elite 32 selected.
Cerys Griffiths (Runner-Up):
Since joining Haverfordwest Seals in 2022, Cerys Griffiths has made significant strides, earning multiple Welsh qualifying times and breaking personal records. She is ranked number 1 in Wales for the 100m, 200m and 400m front crawl. In her first race at the British Summer Championships in Sheffield, she impressively advanced from a 14th seed to a fourth-place finish in the 400m Free. Notably, she clinched gold in the 200m Freestyle from an outside lane. Cerys’s is Wales’s top-ranked Girls Under 14 swimmer.
Ffion Bowen (Runner-Up):
Ffion Bowen, representing FAW South Academy since age 11, has excelled across multiple international competitions. Recently in Albania, she scored against the host country, aiding her team in securing a coveted UEFA League A spot. Her remarkable achievements this year include a call-up for the Wales Women's U19s, a strong showing in the UEFA qualifiers, and playing against top-tier teams like Aston Villa. Ffion has joined Leicester City U21s and manages her academic and athletic commitments admirably at Loughborough College.
